About The Biennial

Beginning in 2011, the Fraser Valley Biennial has been an integral exhibition here at the Reach Gallery Museum. The Biennial continues to grow and develop with each successive year as it adapts to reflect the changing character of the creative landscape in our region. Engaging a range of curatorial voices over the years has allowed the Biennial to be shaped by fresh perspectives and contextualizations of regional arts practice. The Biennial is an important opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary quality of artistic production in the Fraser Valley, and to increase the public’s awareness of the many talented artists who live and work in this part of the province. We have slightly altered the name of the exhibition from the Italian “Biennale” to the English “Biennial,” which we feel is more fitting for an exhibition situated in and responsive to the Fraser Valley context. We are pleased to be working again with our partners at the Abbotsford Arts Council, the Kent Harrison Arts Council, the Chilliwack Cultural Centre, and the Mission Arts Council. We extend our thanks and congratulations to the artists included in the 2021 Biennial, and we hope there is much in this exhibition that visitors will find inspiring, hopeful, and thought-provoking.
